Race Day Sees Rowers New And Old Take To The Water

A full afternoon of rowing saw 25 club members compete against each other in a series of head-to-head fun races.

Victories for both boats, Honesty and Steedie Falconer, were mixed up with tryout sessions for new rowers.

13 people tried out coastal rowing for the first time - ranging from people who have never rowed in their lives to former “slidey seat rowers”.

The club also used the opportunity to practice rescuing people from the water. This allowed all members to watch from the Fisherrow Harbour Wall and understand how to bring people into the boat - and see how life jackets work when inflated.

Two rowers, Josh and Yasmin, jumped in to then be “rescued” by their crews. While Jessica swam out from the shore to act as a swimmer in distress.

All of this was also accompanied by cakes and baking from club members. And at the end of the day members’ dogs were also given a chance to come out in the boats.

Màiri Lafferty, one of the clubs coxes, said:

“It was great to catch up with the club and meet more folk. Overboard training was a great idea and informative.

“Thanks to Simon for organising and the club members that organised cameras, sorted life jackets, arranged the boats after, jumped into the water. And to the bakers!”
